A final push has been launched in an appeal to provide a mini radio station on wheels to cheer up young patients at Southampton General Hospital.<\/p>\n
Radio Lollipop Southampton today urged people to dig deep to help raise the remaining \u00a33,000 needed to provide a high-tech \u201cLolliTrollie\u201d for the children\u2019s wards.<\/p>\n
Fundraisers say the multi-sensory piece of equipment will be a game-changer when it comes to gaining the attention of children and distracting them from their illness.<\/p>\n
The plea comes after charitable organisation Cash for Kids pledged to match-fund every pound raised \u2013 meaning Radio Lollipop only has to find half of the remaining \u00a36,000 needed.<\/p>\n
Tina Jones, Radio Lollipop Southampton Trustee, said: \u201cOur volunteers currently visit with a traditional trolley laden with games, puzzles, colouring and crafts, which really help to break the boredom and relieve any anxiety.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe children\u2019s smiles and laughter make everything worthwhile for us; it is a fantastic feeling to finish a visit knowing you have made a difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving our own LolliTrollie will take things to the next level, allowing us to bring music, lights and more to the hospital bedside.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Bubbles, disco lights, fibre optics, karaoke gear and a balloon pump are among features on the fully loaded trolley, designed by Radio Lollipop founder Hedley Finn OBE and described as the latest innovation in play technology.<\/p>\n
The equipment isn\u2019t cheap at \u00a312,000 \u2013 but Radio Lollipop Southampton is already at the half-way mark thanks to the efforts of dynamic national fundraiser Denise Norman.<\/p>\n
As well as donating \u00a31,000 herself, Denise successfully applied for a \u00a35,000 grant from The Gerald Micklem Charitable Trust, which supports good causes mainly in Hampshire and West Sussex.<\/p>\n
Now Radio Lollipop desperately needs individuals, families and businesses to rally round to muster up the remaining \u00a33,000.<\/p>\n
