Massive murray prize!
1 February 2011

Rebecca, aged 10 (pictured) has won Radio Lollipop Edinburgh’s fantastic Andy Murray competition. Rebecca was delighted to receive the signed Andy Murray T-shirt which was donated by Andy’s Mum Judy. Volunteer Stephan Verth from a Monday night was happy to present the fantastic prize to Rebecca.

Many children at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children entered the competition which saw them colouring in a tennis player and asking Andy a question.

All of the questions were sent to Andy over in Australia and despite being a very busy guy, what with making it all the way to the Australian Open final, he answered them all within days! Rebecca asked Andy how old he was when he started playing tennis. Can you believe it – he was only 2. Here’s what else he had to say:

What was the most unusual thing you have ever done for charity? Catie aged 9
”Wow, good question. I think it would have to be hitting tennis balls with David Beckham on the pitch at Wembley football stadium! That was for Malaria No More charity and it was good fun.”

Will you win Wimbledon this year? Tegan aged 6
”I hope so Tegan, I’ll try my best!”

Who is the roughest player you have ever played against and why? Rameesah aged 11
”Good question. I’ll say my brother. We get on great, but we had a few battles on and off court when we were younger!”

Why did you choose to play tennis? Brooke aged 6
”We played lots of sports when we were little, but tennis was the one I liked most and was best at. I like football to though.”

How long have you played tennis? Gary aged 9
”Since I was very little. I think I got my first racquet when I was about two.”

How many aces have you scored in one game? Heather aged 15
”I wish I could have as many as John Isner at Wimbledon this year – he had 112! That would be nice.”

If you were not doing tennis, what would your career be? Melissa aged 10

”I think I would definitely be working in sport. Maybe a football player, I was good at football when I was little. I don’t think I could work indoors, I like being outside in the fresh air!”

What’s your favourite thing about being a tennis player? Hannah aged nearly 10!
”There’s lots of things, but I get to travel the world and see some really amazing cities.”

”And now my personal favourite….”

Are you good on Xbox360? Karla aged 9
”I don’t have an Xbox Karla, but I am very good on a Playstation 3! Especially Pro Evolution Soccer.”

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh would like to express their sincere thanks to Andy and Judy Murray for their support!
