FOR the 14th consecutive year, bus drivers and staff from Western Australia’s Public Transport Authority and Transperth got behind Uniform Free Day to help raise funds for Radio Lollipop.

The event, held in March each year, raised a total of $73,690.77!!!!

PTA Managing Director Mark Burgess recently presented the cheque at the Radio Lollipop station in Princess Margaret Hospital.

“Transperth is proud to support Radio Lollipop which does a fantastic job of entertaining children in WA hospitals,” he said.

On Uniform Free Day, passengers may be a little surprised to board a bus driven by Superman or Marilyn Monroe. Bus drivers, staff and contractors wear a variety of fun and creative costumes and collect donations from passengers throughout the day.

Radio Lollipop volunteers and PTA staff also manned major train and bus stations around Perth encouraging commuters to donate spare change.

A big shout out from Lollipop must go to the bus contractors, PTA staff and enthusiastic volunteers who were up early to collect money. And again, the generosity of WA public transport users blew us all away!

Funds from the 2010 Uniform Free Day will be used to purchase syringe pumps for PMH and to continue refurbishments of the playroom at Joondalup Hospital.
