NHS staff came out in style for Newcastle’s sick kids recently when a fundraising party raised over £400 for Radio Lollipop Newcastle.

The Halloween fancy dress party, organised by Sister Macdonald from the Royal Victoria Infirmary was attended by staff from the unit along with Radio Lollipop volunteers.

Sister Macdonald said

“I was amazed at how many people turned up and how generous people were in giving to the charity. We are hoping to have another party next year and are pleased to know that the money is going to help Radio Lollipop’s valued work with the children”.

Kate Fenwick, fundraiser for the Newcastle branch of Radio Lollipop said of the donation.

“We are ecstatic at the amount raised but having attended the party, we are also pleased that everyone turned out in such good spirits to support the work of Radio Lollipop. We were particularly impressed at the effort people had gone to with their costumes to make sure everyone joined in and had fun. Some of the kids we work with don’t get the chance to go out and join in the fun on Halloween and it’s a really great way for the staff at the hospital to honour the kids and their courage by daring to make a fool of themselves in crazy outfits!

The fact that the children benefitted from the donation is a very welcome outcome but we hope great fun was had by all too”.

The donation of £411.10 is likely to be put towards a range of prizes for children who join in Radio Lollipop’s activities on the hospital wards.

Radio Lollipop would sincerely like to thank Sister Macdonald for her efforts in organising an excellent night and other organistations who helped on the night, including the photographer wwho donated proceeds to Radio Lollipop, Lynn and the staff at Newcastle labour club who went to a real effort to decorate the room for the party and to Jordy Cernik for providing an excellent night’s entertainment.
