A great way to honour little jeff
9 December 2006

Newcastle’s rock fans came out in force this year to celebrate the life of DJ Little Jeff, raising masses of cash for Radio Lollipop in the process.

The well-known DJ began his career at Radio Lollipop and this was recognised by Trillians rock bar where “Jeff Fest ’06” was held. The charity night featured live performances and raised in excess of £3000 which was split between three charities chosen by Little Jeff’s family.

“Stuart Davison, manager of the rock bar got in touch to say that we could come down to collect the donation” said Kate Fenwick, a Radio Lollipop volunteer in Newcastle. “We were hoping for maybe £100 or £200 but were totally astonished at the total. I don’t think people always realise how much of a difference a donation of £1000 can make to a small station like ours. It will make a huge difference to our sick kids.

It’s great that Jeff’s family recognise our work and how important it is for children with a whole host of illnesses. It’s a real honour for us and it has helped to raise awareness of the charity amongst a group of people that wouldn’t necessarily normally be associated with children’s radio.”

Some of the donated money will go towards hiring a marquee for our big birthday bash, and the rest will help to buy equipment for our new studio in the new wing of the hospital.
