Radio lollipop goes tropical…
7 August 2006

Once again Radio Lollipop Edinburgh took to the streets of Scotland’s Capital in the Festival Cavalcade.

The Edinburgh team adopted a Tropical Rainforest theme this year with our open top bus being transformed into a rainforest, compete with it’s own waterfall.

With the float being a tropical rainforest the crowds watching also got a bit wet – in the form of our now infamous water pistols!

Radio Lollipop presenters David Sweeney and Peter Dick got the crowds dancing to the ‘YMCA’ and ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ while the rest of the Volunteer team showed them how it was done from the top of the bus.

For the past 18 years Radio Lollipop Edinburgh have taken part in this annual event which attracts crowds in excess of 200,000 every year. Radio Lollipop Edinburgh also holds the accolade of being the first float to use music – something which almost every float uses today.

The Cavalcade was a great success offering all those who took part the chance to dress up and have fun whilst helping to raise the profile and role of Radio Lollipop Edinburgh to a huge audience.

Once again the float would not have been possible without the help and support from Kenny and everyone at Lothian Buses. Special thanks also goes to our driver Brian. He’d not driven a crowd like us around Edinburgh before!!
