For the 7th consecutive year the Bus Driver’s of
Perth have donned fancy dress costumes instead
of their uniforms to raise funds for Radio Lollipop.

This year they raised approximately $56,000.
Once a year the driver’s discard their uniform to
wear a range of costumes from wonder woman,
clowns, super heroes and many other imaginative
ideas. Elvis decorated his bus in Elvis style,
and played Elvis music to passengers during the
day. They also hold barbecues, auctions, a river
cruise and other functions. Schools also participate
and hold special days for Radio Lollipop.

The Bus Driver’s Uniform Free Day is supported
by the general public. Many people look forward
to the day and make the comment that it is
a great way to start and end their day, with people
laughing and joining in the fun. Support is
also gained from Transperth, Channel 7, radio
stations, Newspapers, and a variety of sponsors
who provide prizes for a raffle, different fundraising
activities, ‘Best Dressed Driver’s awards, and
in other ways.

The Radio Lollipop volunteers are also involved in
that they get their places of work to participate,
and also assist the drivers in collecting money
around the city. A Roadshow is held by our volunteers in the heart of the city centre on the day
with special guests, including television celebrities
and sporting heroes. The audience consists
of primary school children who make the journey
into the city.

The Bus Driver’s of Perth have provided the funds
to establish a Radio Lollipop station at Fremantle
Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus, and a new
studio in Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.
The new studio has a much bigger area, and provides a larger area for the children to play and
have fun in away from the hospital environment.
