KIDS DAY OUT 2013
21 May 2013

If you like kids and animals, then this is the event for you! Southern Stars Kids Day Out is an annual event held at Kiwi Valley Farm Park in Henderson, benefiting Autism New Zealand. Southern Stars are an organisation which aims to support special needs and disadvantaged kids. They are one of Radio Lollipop New Zealand’s biggest supporters, and we are always very glad to help them out.

Sandie, Angela and I were joined by a group of Radio Lollipop volunteers from Waitakere and Counties Manukau branches. We raced to put together hundreds of food bags, served sausage sizzles for lunch and helped Lorraine at the face-painting stand. My first customer of the day was a little girl who asked to be a Smurf. Needless to say, it wasn’t the confidence boost I needed to start off my face-painting career…

Everyone had such a great time playing with the farm animals, going for pony and tractor rides, jumping on the giant bouncy castles, getting their faces painted and watching the pirate and sheep shearing shows. The Queen of Hearts and The Mad Hatter even made an appearance. After five and a half years at Radio Lollipop, I was excited to finally attend my first Kids Day Out. I’ll be back next year for sure!
