Birmingham Radio Lollipop LolliTrollie
12 February 2024

With sincere thanks to Heart of England Community Foundation, Radio Lollipop Birmingham, based in the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, is getting a LolliTrollie. Radio Lollipop Volunteers will be bringing fun and excitement to the bedside, helping the sick youngsters forget their aches and pains.

Play leaders say the multi-sensory “LolliTrollie” will be a game-changer when it comes to gaining the attention of young patients and distracting them from their illness. This hi-tech piece of equipment costs nearly £12,000 and has been awarded as part of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games legacy. Radio Lollipop Volunteers who visit and bring fun, music, and entertainment to the youngsters on the children’s wards at Birmingham Children’s Hospital can’t wait for the delivery, due in May.

Bubbles, disco lights, fibre optics, a balloon pump and karaoke gear are among features on the fully loaded trolley, described as the latest innovation in play technology. With LolliTrollies already operating in several other Radio Lollipop Stations (there are 10 Stations in the UK and 36 worldwide) training and systems are already in place to enable the Birmingham Team to get straight out onto the wards.
