Texas children’s hospital
9 October 2001

Radio Lollipop at Texas Children’s Hospital has had a very exciting second year. In April, we received the American Hospital Association Award for Volunteer Excellence. Debbie Prout, one of our
original volunteers, and Sarah Maytum, Child Life
Outreach Coordinator, travelled to the American
Hospital Association Conference in Washington,
DC to accept the award. Debbie presented a poster
on Radio Lollipop and gave a presentation on our
program at a breakfast with many AHA executives.

On October 9, 2001 Radio Lollipop will reopen in
its brand new studio on the 16th floor of our new
inpatient building. Our Biomedical Engineering
Department has been working very hard to get us
up and running! The studio features expanded
space for patients, a Lollipop logo in the carpet,
and a fantastic view of the city of Houston. In
addition, the adjacent activity room has a stage
with a microphone to allow for performances in
conjunction with the Lollipop program! Our patients are very excited to have a “dancing floor”, as they always seem to want to dance and sing when Lollipop is on the air.

We continue to recruit new volunteers and it is exciting to see them mix with our original volunteers. We are hoping to go on the air another
night once we have made the transition to the new
studio. Radio Lollipop is a huge hit with our
patients!
