Princess Sparkles and the Party Pirate visit Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital
17 March 2013

The Gold Coast’s own Radio Lollipop Live Radio Show will soon be back on airwaves with volunteers busily preparing for the relaunch. The Radio Lollipop volunteers are currently in training to bring sick kids at the Gold Coast Hospital a regular live radio show.

Gold Coast Chairperson, Martine Simonds and Program Co-ordinator, Evie Mitchell visited Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s hospital to train with experienced Radio Lollipop announcer, Penelope Passport (Aka Ceara McManus) and the “Terrific Tuesday Team”.

Martine and Evie, (aka Princess Sparkles and Party Pirate), learned the ropes of a regular radio show and discovered while taking song requests that Psy’s “Gangnam Style”, is still top of the pops in the children’s wards.

“We were a bit nervous at first but Penelope Passport is so relaxed and professional that it turned out to be lots of fun,” Martine said.  “It’s clear that the kids love interacting with a live show and their faces light up when they hear their name and song request played.  The Brisbane crew have set the bar for professional, thoughtful radio programs really high and I’m excited that we will soon be able to bring a live radio show to the Gold Coast patients”.
