Radio Lollipop in Newcastle Triumph at the (delayed)40th Great North Run 2021 Birthday Celebration

After a long, long wait Radio Lollipop in Newcastle were well represented at the 40th Great North Run this year with volunteer runners  Abbie, Adam, Amy, Anna, Chris, Ian, Kate, Marcella, Mark C, Mark H, Morgan, Myles, Rebecca and Ross.

Every single step, every single wave to friends and family and every crossing of the finish line (even going around in a very big circle 😉 – no finishing at South Shields this year due to Covid changes) meant so much to every single person.   All of our runners came within the first 27800 finishers which is no mean feat with an entry of over 50000 people.  We had 2 sets of volunteers who ran every step together and they crossed the finishing line with identical times which was amazing and shows the dedication and teamwork within Radio Lollipop.

We had amazing coverage on BBC and those volunteers and supporters who couldn’t run or be there were glued to the TV and spotted our runners many times on the small screen.

No matter what reason is chosen for running the Great North Run it is completed with head, heart (and sore feet) to show support for Radio Lollipop Newcastle and what it has done over the last 39 years for the sick children of the North East and long may it continue.
