Mcfly make it a christmas special for yorkhill

Superstar boy band McFly brought their own Christmas special to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill.

They made a surprise appearance at the hospital to the delight of patients and performed the traditional switch-on of the Christmas tree lights before taking the stage at a sell-out concert at the SECC last night.
Our volunteers were on hand once again to get the party started even though it was freezing cold they still kept smiling !

The hospital’s 20ft Christmas tree was donated by Glasgow City Council and for the second year in a row, the garlands of lights, along with other internal decorations, have been donated by the UK’s leading specialist lighting retailer Pagazzi Lighting.

Magic mike mystifies the gold coast!

The Gold Coast had a fantastic visit from Magic Mike this week. Mike came and dazzled the children and families with his magical prowess and humour. Mike kicked off with a half hour show in our studio for the children, which included tricky wands, coloured scarves and of course pulling a rabbit out of a hat. He invited some of the children to join in, to great laughter from the audience. He received a rousing roar of applause and cheers at the end of the show. He then headed out to the wards and did some amazing tricks at the bedsides of the children. All of the volunteers were amazed at his skill, and he even did an astounding trick with one of our volunteers silver rings that we are all still trying to work out! Needless to say, he didn’t manage to make any of our volunteers disappear thank goodness! We all had sore tummy muscles from laughing so much, it was a great night!
A huge thanks to Magic Mike for entertaining the children and the volunteers. You are welcome back at any time!

The gold coast blaze visit radio lollipop!

The Gold Coast Blaze basketball team visited the Radio Lollipop studio at the Gold Coast this week. They had great fun playing ping pong, painting and telling jokes on air. The kids really enjoyed the visit, and there were plenty of smiles and laughter to be heard on the wards. A huge thanks to Pero, Zac, Casey and Nicole for coming along and putting a smile on the little peoples faces, and the volunteers!

Queensland softball team visits the mater children’s hospital

Last Night, the Wacky Wednesday team at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane welcomed six players from the Queensland Softball Team to visit with us on the wards. Stacey, Sherrie, Lena, Tolly, Del and Danielle handed out ‘showbags’ and autographs for the children as keepsakes from their special visitors.

There were smiles all round for the camera, as the girls had photo’s taken with lots of the children which will be sent to them as another keepsake and bragging piece after their stay in hospital.

Danielle recently returned from the Beijing Olympics where she won a Bronze Medal representing Australia and she brought this around for everyone to see. Lena also bought her very pretty softball glove to show off with her Queensland Heat uniform and she was able to explain the role of a catcher.

We wish the team all the best as they play in competitions over the next three months.

Thanks to Queensland Academy Sport, Danielle, Stacey, Sherrie, Lena, Tolly and Del for making last night a special one for the children at the Mater Children’s Hospital.

Check out Stacy, Sherrie and Danielle in our photo.
