Radio Lollipop Newcastle prepares to celebrate our 40th Birthday

In the run up to our 40th (YES WE ARE 40 – NEARLY) Birthday on July 14th 2022 Radio Lollipop Newcastle are working hard to make this a very special time even though we aren’t yet allowed back on the wards.  Plans are well advanced for our Grand Birthday Draw with amazing prizes including a Barbour jacket and a full set of autographed LJ Ross DCI Ryan detective novels.  Although ward rounds are out of the question we are making up some extra special Goodie Bags along with balloons to leave with the young patients and staff so they can join in the celebration.

Of course, Cake will be a necessity and we hope to arrange a gathering of volunteers past and present to mark this milestone in both our station history and that of Radio Lollipop sister stations throughout the world.

CRAZY SOCKS 4 DOCS

On Friday the 3rd of June, Lollipoppers from our Gold Coast University Hospital station ventured to Robina Hospital donning their craziest socks in support of doctors.

Crazysocks4docs Day is an annual awareness-raising event to help break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues in health professionals. On the first Friday of June, health care professionals have an excuse to showcase their whackiest socks, with Lollipoppers being no exception.

At the hospital event, Jungle Jess 🦁 and Rowdy Rishy 🤠 (pictured) wore their softest, spottiest, shaggiest, silliest socks and brought the fun and thunder in a uniquely Lollipop way. From handing out stickers, mindfulness colouring books and pencils, to ambushing poor unsuspecting staff for photos, our Lollipoppers had a blast, and everyone left our stall with a smile!

Thank you to our amazing volunteers who came down to Robina hospital in their craaazy socks in support of de-stigmatising mental health!
