Fantastic fundraising by hilton staff

Chris Douglas, Deputy Manager of the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor, popped into the studio last week to present the first cheque of funds raised by the hotel for Radio Lollipop Edinburgh.

The cheque was for a fantastic £1457 and there are still more funds to come, as the hotel continue to raise money for the charity with events such as the Hilton Around the World Day which included a sponsored cycle ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh is the nominated charity of the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor. The hotel raises money as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation’s work. Hilton in the Community Foundation was founded in 2000 as Hilton Hotels’ charity dedicated to supporting young people in need. Focused on disabled children, children in hospitals and hospices and homelessness, grants supporting disadvantaged young people are made in the UK and Ireland.

Trailfinders have also been raising funds for Radio Lollipop Edinburgh and recently completed the Hairy Haggis relay marathon on behalf of the charity. The Trailfinders team raised an amazing £3000 for Radio Lollipop.

All of the volunteers at Radio Lollipop Edinburgh would like to thank the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor and Trailfinders for their continued support.

Another lollipop suck-cess!

And what another great success with our second Bunning’s Sausage Sizzle for the year at the Bunning’s Harbour Town store. We managed to raise a whopping $1,347.50 worth of cash for the children, while having fun and working together like we all do so well!

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out before and after the event, we couldn’t have done it without all the support, especially the family and friends.

With two down for the year we look forward to our next Sausage Sizzle in late October. A big thanks to Bunning’s for your continuing support, we can’t wait for our next big day out soon!

A ‘heap’ of fun at the fillmore

British singer and Grammy award winning multi-instrumentalist, Imogen Heap, made Radio Lollipop her official charity for one night at a local show at The Fillmore in Miami Beach. Heap, touring through North America during her Ellipse World Tour, agreed to donate all proceeds from her downloadable improvised song during her show, to benefit Radio Lollipop. At each stop during her tour, Heap is choosing a different local charity.

Before she performed her improvised song, Heap described what Radio Lollipop is to the audience and then said that we are a great and cool charity; therefore she decided to go with us. Heap made her very own Radio Lollipop banner and held it up for people to take pictures of.

Terrific Tuesday volunteer, Melissa Ruiz-Lau and Thrilling Thursday member, Andrew Geffner, helped promote our program to concert goers. “It was pleasant to see such an interest in our organization and the prospect of Imogen Heap’s fans becoming volunteers,” said Geffner.

“We were greeted by a mom and dad who told us of how grateful they are to Radio Lollipop and its volunteers. They said they spent quite some time at Miami Children’s Hospital for both their kids a long time ago,” said Ruiz-Lau.

Radio Lollipop would like to thank Imogen Heap for choosing us as her charity during her concert in Miami, in what was both a fun and successful event for everyone.

An uphill struggle

A team of Southampton General Hospital workers are preparing to take on the UK’s three highest peaks in 24 hours to raise funds for Radio Lollipop.

The team of six walkers and two support crew will scale the heights of Scotland’s Ben Nevis, England’s Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in North Wales.

The group have set themselves a target of £1,500 which will buy art & craft materials and activities for Southampton Radio Lollipop for a whole year.

The challenge, which takes place on June 12 and 13, involves 26 miles of walking with a total ascent of more than 9,000 feet as well as a drive of over 500 miles – and all within 24 hours.
