Mater goes bananas

It was Monkey Mania for the Thrilling Thursday team on 27 August thanks to a visit from MYMO the Monkey from MyGym at Wynnum. The craft activity for the night was making monkeys and the kids came up with all sorts of fabulous designs to show off to Mymo as he visited the wards.

Mymo searched the wards for Bananas creating lots of smiles and even a few shocked looks along the way!

A fun night was had by all, creating many great photo opportunities so that the children can take home a photo and remember their night with MYMO the Monkey for many years to come.

Our Thanks go to Nikki and the team at MyGym Wynnum.

Brisbane roar fundraiser

What an AWESOME Sunday… Radio Lollipop was offered an opportunity to collect donations at the recent Brisbane Roar Soccer game against the Wellington Phoenix from New Zealand.

15 Radio Lollipop volunteers, friends and work colleagues shook donation tins and gave away orange and blue balloons swords, flowers and poodles to raise over $700 in just 90 minutes at the game last Sunday. Club Mascot Roary was a huge hit having sword fights with all the children.

The Brisbane Roar also offered free tickets for our volunteers to watch the game. The Brisbane Roar was leading 1 to nil until the final minutes of the game when the Wellington Phoenix scored. The game ended in a draw.

The Brisbane Roar are great supporters of Radio Lollipop. We recently had two great players Massimo Murdocca and Luke DeVere along with club mascot Roary visit the children at the Mater Children’s Hospital. We wish the Brisbane Roar every success this season.

Check out Roary with Radio Lollipop supporter Cheryl Nobelen.

Big brother’s bree amer drops by at the gold coast!

The children at the Gold Coast Hospital were excited to have t.v personality Bree Amer and SEA FM radio jock Becks pop in for a visit on Wednesday night.

Bree, who was a contestant on Big Brother 2004 and went on to co-host Big Brother Friday Night Live, put lots of smiles on the children’s faces with her warm personality and great sense of humour. Bree and Becks got busy in the studio, painting, making crafts and playing ping pong with their young fans.

We managed to get Bree on the radio for an interview about her favourite things, her time in the infamous Big Brother house and some of her quirky traits – we learnt that she can turn her double-jointed wrist around 360 degrees…eww!

Becks and Bree had a great time and made a special effort to visit all the children who weren’t well enough to come down to the playroom. Becs even managed to get in the way of Bree’s Radio Lollipop hand prints, resulting in him wearing very colourful face for the rest of the night! Thanks for visiting us guys, come back again soon.

Broncos make it a night to remember

Radio Lollipop went into a footy frenzy when Darren Lockyer and Ben Hunt from the Brisbane Broncos visited the Mater Hospital on Monday 17 August.

Darren and Ben visited the children on the wards who were extremely excited to see them (as were the parents!). Coincidently one of the children had just completed a school assignment on Darren Lockyer and was thrilled to meet the man himself.

The boys got to swap stories about living in the country with a few of the children who were visiting the hospital from western Queensland and gave all the budding young football players lots of great sporting advice.

All the children, parents and volunteers were extremely excited to have Darren and Ben from the Brisbane Broncos visit Radio Lollipop!

Our thanks go out to Darren Lockyer, Ben Hunt, Katherine Bennett and Peter Nolan for arranging this visit.

Radio Lollipop wishes you all the best of luck for the upcoming finals. Go Broncos!
