Gold Coast singer Jacob Lee brings music to the children in hospital

Jacob Lee, singer and The Voice Australia 2014 contestant, travelled from the Gold Coast to visit the Brisbane Radio Lollipop studio and sing to the children at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

Brisbane Radio Lollipop Chairperson Michael Gilbert said it was an exciting show with Jacob Lee joining the team of volunteers in the studio and the children really enjoyed requesting songs which he played live.

“Radio Lollipop is all about entertaining children in hospital with their choice of songs requested from their bedside or within the studio, so we were delighted to have Jacob Lee entertain the children and their families with his acoustic version of Uptown Funk, Thinking Out Loud, Stay With Me, as well as his new song Chariot,” Mr Gilbert said.

“It’s a chance for the children to forget that they’re in hospital and we really appreciate Jacob taking the time to visit us to create positive memories while the children are in hospital.

Eight year old patient Emily Copas came to watch Jacob Lee with her Nan and she lit up when Jacob sang her favourite songs, including Lego House.

“We would like to thank Radio Lollipop and especially Jacob as it was the highlight of Emily’s stay in hospital this time round,” said Emily’s Nan, Debbie McMahon.

“Emily is still talking about Jacob and showing everyone her photo with Jacob.”

Jacob Lee said the Radio Lollipop team made him feel welcome from the start and he enjoyed playing for the children in hospital.

“Having people at the hospital that clearly care so much about the wellbeing and happiness of the kids is beautiful and I’m glad I could be part of it,” Mr Lee said.

“A young girl named Emily sat with her Nan as I performed in the studio. I think the music I performed made her day and that in itself is what makes all of this worthwhile.”

Mr Gilbert said Radio Lollipop couldn’t make these moments happen if it wasn’t for special guests taking the time to visit the children and the support of our donators and volunteers.

Thanks for Your Support: Radio Lollipop’s 9th Annual Improv Comedy Night Success!

The annual Radio Lollipop Improv Comedy Night moved to its new home at Stage 305 in Magic City Casino for its 9th annual event. With more than 500 attendees, the venue was packed with guests ready for some serious laughs!  Thanks to the support of its sponsors and guests, Radio Lollipop raised over $60,000 at the event, with 100% of proceeds benefitting the patients of Radio Lollipop.

No stranger to the Radio Lollipop Improv stage, the evening was hosted once again by DJ Laz and his fabulous co-host Kimmy B of the DJ Laz Morning Show. We also had live music provided by DJ Tony the Hitman. The night featured a variety of comedic talent from Have-Nots Comedy. Among them was Adrian Mesa who told the crowd his unique and NSFW way of making chicken and waffles. Comedienne Kim Manfre spoke the truth as she expressed how “Every diet tastes like ‘I wanna be fat!’”.  Headliners included Comedy Central’s Mike Britt from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Miami’s Nery Saenz, who proudly proclaimed “Ain’t nobody want to lay their head on a bag of rocks… shout out to the cushiony guys!”

Lolli-land Birthday Party is Oh So Sweet!

On May 6th, 2015, Radio Lollipop celebrated its 19th birthday with a candy-themed Lolli-Land Birthday Bash. Patients danced and sang the night away as we celebrated what Radio Lollipop is all about – providing fun and laughter for our patients and families. Hosted by long-time friend and Radio Lollipop supporter, DJ Laz of HITS 97.3, patients and families were treated to a playroom filled with activities to choose from.

Whether karaoke-ing at the top of their lungs or posing for a picture with their friends at our photo booth, patients got their fill of fun activities throughout the night. In true birthday fashion, the playroom was filled with activity stations and delectable food & refreshments. Guests both in the playroom and in their own rooms experienced the sweet sounds of DDLUX and musicians from Fusion Media, as they roamed the hospital serenading patients. Other highlights included special visits from the Miami HEAT Dancers & Burnie the Mascot. A representative from the Live Like Bella Foundation was present to award Radio Lollipop a check and express their gratitude for the impact Radio Lollipop had while Bella was a hospital guest.

Long-term NCH patient, Ana, had a blast celebrating Radio Lollipop’s 19th birthday. Although Ana is in a wheelchair with limited mobility, she let the music move her and with the support and encouragement of family and Radio Lollipop volunteers, Ana was able to dance the night away. She mastered the Cha-Cha Slide with her fellow patients, volunteers and the HEAT Dancers.
