Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain support Radio Lollipop

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain adopted Radio Lollipop as their official charity for their tour of Australia and New Zealand in February 2013. They kicked off their tour by delighting the Brisbane crowd with an array of toe tapping songs that not only brought the audience to its feet but inspired them to contribute to $1650 in cash donations to Radio Lollipop!

Radio Lollipop volunteers handed out brochures and collected donations at the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne shows to raise a total of $4,500. The funds raised will contribute to the $500,000 needed relocate our services into three new hospitals that are being built in Perth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The next stop for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain was New Zealand. We hope the crowds enjoyed their songs as much as their Down Under friends.

Our sincerest thanks to the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain who helped us raise much needed funds and spread the word about our important cause in Australia and New Zealand.

Uniform Free Day – 20 March 2013

Perth’s Uniform Free Day will be held in 2013 on Wednesday 20 March.

For the 17th consecutive year, bus drivers across Perth, in Kalgoorlie, Dunsborough and Busselton will place Radio Lollipop collections tins on their bus. Passengers are asked for a donation on the day from bus drivers who are encouraged to exchange their regular uniform for costume. In addition, Public Transport Authority staff and Radio Lollipop volunteers will take to the streets of Perth to shake a tin and many Perth businesses and schools will also participate.

It is an important source of revenue for Radio Lollipop and the charity’s major fundraising event for Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and the six satellite hospitals throughout Western Australia. Proceeds from the event will enable us purchase books, craft and music, as well as maintain our radio program and continue to provide care, comfort, play and entertainment to the sick children of Western Australia.

Last year, more than $95,000 was raised from Uniform Free Day and with your support we will hit our $100,000 target in 2013. To fiUFD Transperth busnd out how you or your business can be involved, call the Radio Lollipop office on +61 8 9340 8835 or email melissa.dawes@radiolollipop.org.

Radio Lollipop volunteer is awarded The Medal of The Order of Australia

The Australia Day 2013 Honours List has honoured Radio Lollipop Volunteer, Sandra Ursino with the Medal of the order of Australia (OAM) award.

It is an enormous accolade for Sandra personally, and for Radio Lollipop as an organisation, for Sandra to be recognized in The Australia Day National Honours list.

No-one was more surprised than Sandra when the award was announced. Reflective of her selfless attitude her immediate response was… “this award is not for me – it is recognition for the entire Radio Lollipop volunteer team”.

Radio Lollipop around the world salutes Sandra for this prestigious achievement through playing a major role in supporting Radio Lollipop’s mission of providing care, comfort, play and entertainment for sick children in hospital.
