UFD – The Party That Just Keeps Going

Uniform Free Day might be officially over on the East Coast of Australia – but we never like to see a party end, so celebrations are still on-going in schools and businesses keen to support Radio Lollipop.

We have been overwhelmed by the willingness of so many to get behind our fundraising efforts – all with the aim of providing care, comfort, play and entertainment to children in hospital.

Our volunteers began the day greeting commuters at Brisbane train stations, engaging a much wider cross section of the community than we normally reach at the hospitals, while also shaking tins and selling merchandise. Every little bit helps to keep us on air and by the beds of young patients.

We then experienced some amazing grass roots support from local government departments and small businesses across this side of the country who got creative and colourful with their work wear for the cost of a gold coin donation. The team from Bolts and Industrial Supplies (pictured) in particular made a super effort to dress up!

More dress up days are planned for the coming weeks so we look forward to stretching the great vibe of Uniform Free Day into a month long event!

But for now we turn our attention to the birthplace of UFD as Western Australia gears up for the ultimate celebration of all things Radio Lollipop as volunteers and supporters hit the streets, schools, bus and train stations in an eye catching display of the fun that is central to everything we do.

Fundraising campaign for Kids in Show Seats (K.I.S.S.)

On the Road to Recovery

The Queensland Ambulance Service has seen the trauma many children face when the head to hospital, so its members were happy to throw their support behind a cause which is designed to help young patients smile again.

Radio Lollipop’s Uniform Free Day on the East Coast of Australia on Friday March 8, is all about having fun while raising funds to keep our volunteers on the air and by the beds of children in hospital.

For the cost of a gold coin donation, Paramedic Kent Jackson and Emergency Medical Dispatcher Emily Mildred added a little colour to their work clothes – and the money raised by dressing up will help supply our team of play makers with the tools they need to distract vulnerable young patients.

Games and craft supplies are always in high demand as an outlet to keep young minds active and little hands busy while confined to bed. The music, competitions and fun from our live radio program also soothe nervous listeners as they request, and sing along to, their favourite tunes.

But while our wonderful team of volunteers at Queensland Children’s, Mater, Logan, and Gold Coast University Hospitals donate an endless supply of time and talent to young patients, we still need support from the wider community to keep our programs running.

Please encourage your colleagues or classmates to wear a colourful costume on Uniform Free Day, this Friday March 8, to raise awareness and funds for Radio Lollipop, so we can help pave the road to recovery with laughter and fun.
