Olympic gold medal winner emily seebohm visits radio lollipop mater

Last night the Wacky Wednesday team were dazzled with a visit from Australian Swimming sensation and Beijing Gold Medalist Emily Seebohm. Emily won her Gold Medal at the recent Beijing Olympics for her amazing result in the Australian Women’s 4 x 100m Medley.

Emily had a welcoming crew of some patients that were doing craft in the studio eagerly awaiting her arrival. After reviewing the masterpieces being created for our ‘Bug’ themed night Emily headed up to the wards to visit more of the children.

The strength of the children (parents and nurses as well) was tested as they got to hold Emily’s Olympic Gold Medal and many got photos taken and received autographs as a keepsake for the night.

We wish Emily all the best in her training and future events.

Thanks to Emily, her father John, Melissa from Queensland Academy of Sport and Jason for their help in facilitating this visit.

Radio lollipop mater turns 18 years

Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital celebrated its 18th birthday on Tuesday 2 December 2008.

Radio Lollipop Australia Director Sandra Ursino said this was a significant achievement for a volunteer-based organisation.

“Together over the past 18 years we have made a significant contribution to the Brisbane community,” she said.

“Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Mater Children’s Hospital, and most importantly the sick children that we have laughed with and played with during their stay in hospital.”

A huge party was held in the Radio Lollipop studio for the children and their families. A long time special guest of Radio Lollipop Ronald McDonald and Hamburglar came in to visit the children and celebrate our milestone.

Radio Lollipop International will celebrate their 30th birthday in May 2009.
