Bristol radio lollipop volunteer and dj john goss successfully completes the 2009 ‘pop putt rally!

To mark Radio Lollipop Bristol’s 25th Birthday, volunteer DJ John Goss travelled from Lands End to John O’Groats over 2 weeks, attempting to play Crazy Golf at over 25 different courses (1 for every year of Bristol Radio Lollipop, plus a bonus 5 courses for Radio Lollipop International’s 30th birthday). He hoped to raise sponsorship money along the way for the charity, which provides music and play to children in Hospital in Bristol and all over the world.

John actually managed to play 40 Crazy Golf courses in 13 days (over 3 a day), visit all the Radio Lollipop Hospitals in the UK along the way, and raise over £300 sponsorship! Thanks to all the hospitals and volunteers that played, aided and assisted him! It was such a success that he hopes to repeat the challenge in the future.

Radio lollipop ball success

The Radio Lollipop volunteers in Edinburgh are delighted to announce that their annual Black Tie Ball has now sold out. Over 200 tickets for the event have been purchased by the charity’s supporters.

The fundraising event is being held on Friday 2rd October at the Roxburghe Hotel, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh. This year the event also marks the charity’s 30th anniversary year and celebrates 20 years of supporting the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

Forth One DJ Iain Waugh will compère the Ball which will also include lots of Lollipop fun with both a raffle and an auction. Radio Lollipop Edinburgh’s 2008 Black Tie Ball raised £10,000 for the charity. Every effort is being made to make the 2009 event even more successful.

‘new pyjamas’ for the sick kids

Radio Lollipop (Edinburgh) is supporting the new pyjamas campaign which is raising £15million for Scotland’s new Sick Kids hospital, to be built in Edinburgh by the end of 2012.

Radio Lollipop is looking forward to the move to the new site in 2012 and to continuing its service of care, comfort, play and entertainment to the children and their families in Edinburgh.

No matter where you live in Scotland, you never know when you will need the Sick Kids. Whether it be minor surgery or a life threatening illness, the Sick Kids is world renowned for its treatment of children and young people. The money raised by new pyjamas will fund lifesaving capital equipment, research, training and support and services for patients and their families which is not part of standard NHS budgets.

The new pyjamas campaign will fund:
– a Drop In centre where families can escape the clinical environment of the wards into a friendly home from home;
– family accommodation so that children can spend the night before an operation with their families – and parents can stay close by while their child is being treated;
– access to the internet to keep children in touch with family and friends so that they don’t feel isolated;
– play equipment;
– classrooms to allow children to keep up with their schoolwork.

To find out more information and how to donate go to www.newpyjamas.org or send a cheque to the new pyjamas campaign at 12a Castle terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2DP.

The new pyjamas campaign is part of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, 20 Millerfield Place, Edinburgh EH9 1LW. Scottish registered charity SCO20862

Radio lollipop stands out from the crowd

On Sunday 30 August, volunteers from Radio Lollipop Mater and Logan joined forces to take on the 2009 Bridge to Brisbane fun run.

Over 41,000 people sacrificed their Sunday sleep-in to raise money for the Heart Foundation by walking or running the 10k or 5k course.

Radio Lollipop stood out from the crowd by dressing up in their favourite clown wigs, fairy wings, and glitter hats! Our volunteers did what they do best, putting smiles on kids faces as they handed out Radio Lollipop balloons and stickers along the way.

Our very own Honorary Press and Public Relations Co-ordinator Melissa Dixon and Honorary Secretary Annette Wylde led the challenge in promoting our cause. Melissa and Annette had many photos taken and Melissa was lucky to be captured by the Brisbane Courier Mail photographer. Check her out!

Thanks to everyone who helped raise our profile in the community.
