“lollipopers” brave the elements for christmas collection

Two years in the planning culminated in a mammoth 12 hours stood on a cold and windy bridge for two Radio Lollipop volunteers. Honorary Fundraiser Lee Donnarumma and Lollipop stalwart Scott Boreham arrived in darkness ready for a 7am start at the Southampton toll bridge and left in darkness at the end of their marathon shift at 7pm. Aided throughout the day by a team of dedicated volunteers from Southampton station, they braved the biting winds, rain, even sleet to shake buckets at passing motorists and raised a whopping £2,900.

Rotary cocktails and canvas fundraiser for radio lollipop

The Rotary Club of Hope Island hosted their first Cocktails and Canvas evening at the Sanctuary Cove Country Club on Friday 2 March 2012 with all proceeds going to Radio Lollipop. Renowned artists Karen Black and Lyn Watson contributed gorgeous and unique pieces of artwork displayed for sale throughout the weekend in the exhibition.

Bruce Uhlhorn, Radio Lollipop International Chairman; Jeanette Shorto, Radio Lollipop Director from Perth; and Miriam Crowe Radio Lollipop Gold Coast Chairperson, represented Radio Lollipop at the event. Bruce did a short presentation to the group about the work by Radio Lollipop in hospitals throughout the world and explained exactly who they were supporting by attending the event and purchasing the artwork.

There was also excellent entertainment by a former opera singer, a speech by Rotary President Sue Marshman, speeches by the two contributing artists and an auction of two remarkable paintings, one of which our Director Jeanette loved so much she just had to have it.

We would love to thank The Rotary Club of Hope Island and President Sue Marshman for hosting the event. Thank you to Karen Black and Lyn Watson for your fabulous artwork and thank you to all who attended in support of Radio Lollipop.

Thank you all for helping us continue to bring smiles to kids in Gold Coast Hospital and throughout the world. We hope this is the first of many events we will join together to run with Rotary.
