Perth Modern Joins Uniform Free Day

ON the morning of 20th of March 2013, nine girls from Perth Modern Senior High School in Perth took to the streets and to city train stations, rattling bright yellow tins and wearing baggy white shirts to raise money for Radio Lollipop. Florentia Susilo, Phoebe Ho, Lauren Street, Anju Nakanishi, Anais Asotoff, Nalindri Jayasinghe, Fiona Yokohata all braved the dark morning and grumpy commuters to shake tins and help bring smiles to sick kids.

Even though they were confronted by some ‘morning-hating’ people, most were kind enough to spare some change, or even empty their entire wallets out! A few Transperth bus drivers passed by the station, honking their horns and giving us a few waves, some in free dress, others in costumes. The best costume that day would probably have to go to Mr Bob the Builder.

Thanks to everyone who donated and helped out on the day! You guys have made a difference in these kids’ lives. In one morning, the girls collected $913.45 for Radio Lollipop towards our goals of $100,000. We look forward to your support in 2014.

Fundraising Recognition at the HBA Awards

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh volunteer, Elaine Craig was awarded with a Highly Commended Certificate for Fundraising at the recent Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) Awards.

Elaine attended the National Hospital Radio Awards ceremony, held in Blackpool, accompanied by fellow volunteer Veronica Baillie.  The HBA Awards are a celebration of hospital radio and are divided into different categories of excellence, Fundraising being one.  The awards ceremony also acts as an opportunity for fellow broadcasters to meet, share ideas and recognise volunteers for their achievements.

Elaine was nominated for an award by the Radio Lollipop Volunteers in Edinburgh due to her involvement with the annual Radio Lollipop Ball, the most successful fundraising event on the calendar, and her efforts in raising additional funds for the charity.  In 2012 Elaine’s efforts, plus the work of the rest of the Ball Organising Team, resulted in raising in excess of £22,000.

Congratulations to Elaine who is pictured here  at the Awards with Peter Jarret from the company PSquared.
