The 2009 ‘pop putt rally

The ‘Pop Putt Rally involved a Bristol Radio Lollipop volunteer attempting to fit in as many rounds of crazy/mini golf into a two week period to raise money for Radio Lollipop, a charity that provides music and play to children in Hospital all over the world.

Starting Saturday August 1st, to mark Radio Lollipop Bristol’s 25th Birthday, a Bristol Radio Lollipop volunteer and DJ John Goss travelled from Lands End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland over 2 weeks. Over this time he aimed to play Crazy Golf at 25 different courses (1 for every year of Bristol Lollipop and if time allows a bonus 5 courses for Radio Lollipop International’s 30th birthday) and get sponsorship money along the way. If each course was 18 holes, that’s 450 holes to be played in two weeks! John intended to pop in on all the Radio Lollipops of the UK on the way and challenge other volunteers to a game.

The itinerary…

02/08 Weymouth

Radio lollipop bristol and young bristol team up to make a film about volunteering

The organisation ‘Young Bristol’, part of the national campaign ‘vinspired’, approached Radio Lollipop Bristol about the volunteering work we do in the Royal Children’s Hospital. They asked whether any of our volunteers between the ages of 18-25 would be willing to be part of a short film (made by a filmmaker but mainly by young volunteers). The purpose of the film was to promote volunteering in a positive light to young people, and will be shown in schools, colleges and the local Connextions centre. Two of our volunteers kindly agreed to be part of it, and special thanks go to Ellie Harris and Gemma Foster. A couple of months after the filming, we were invited to a special screening of the finished film at the Watershed Media Centre in Bristol and were all really pleased with the results! For further info or to watch the film please contact: kate.angel@radiolollipop.org and got to:

Gold coast blaze fire up at radio lollipop!

Last night Gold Coast Radio Lollipop were lucky enough to have star basketball players, Tyson Demos, Pero Cameron and Chris Goulding from the Gold Coast Blaze drop in for a visit!

The kids were prepared, busily making welcome signs and colouring in basketball’s and getting very excited about the professional players coming by. As they entered the playroom we all had to crane our necks and look upwards to greet them…these guys are tall!

The guys had a great time and got busy, painting, playing ping pong and adding to our ‘hands of fame’ posters. The paint covered hands even made their way on to an unsuspecting volunteer’s head, funny man Doug, giving him a colourful look for the rest of the evening (and doesn’t he look happy!).

It was a great night of fun and games, a big thank you to the guys for stopping in and helping to put some huge smiles on their littlest fans’ faces! A highlight was seeing little visitor Tyson interview big basketballer Tyson on the radio, lots of giggles!

Thanks guys, make sure you come back again soon in between your pre-season training. The Blaze kickoff the NBL season September 25th!
