Welcome sweetz

Hi, my name is Sweetz, I am a Radio Lollipop Koala and I was recently named by Annalise a patient from the Mater Children’s Hospital who entered our competition to choose a name for me.

When I went to give Annalise her great prize, she was staying at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane (not at the Mater Children’s Hospital where Radio Lollipop is). So, Scott our Chairman helped and I was able to go on a field trip! It was so exciting, I hardly slept the night before and thankfully, Annalise was very pleased to see me and she really loved her prize. Thanks Annalise for a great name. We also visited some other kids while we were at the Royal Children’s Hospital which was heaps of fun.

I really love visiting the kids at the Mater Children’s Hospital, it is so exciting with lots of laughs, hugs and high five’s. The volunteers are fantastic and make sure I stay safe. This one time – in Ward 7 – a nurse came around the corner and almost screamed in fright – it was so funny.

Love Sweetz

Generous donation of craft supplies to radio lollipop queensland

A recent story on 612 ABC radio by Radio Lollipop Australia Director Sandra Ursino has led to an extremely generous donation of craft supplies from Eddie and Linda Vann from Maleny on the Sunshine Coast.

Eddie and Linda heard the Radio Lollipop story on 612 ABC radio and decided that a shipping container of craft supplies they had left over after selling their craft supply store a few years ago would be well used by Radio Lollipop.

It was like winning the lottery when I received the call from Eddie and Linda to offer us the supplies says Director Sandra Ursino. The range of craft supplies was huge, we received everything from paint to lace, to pottery, glitter, stencils and everything in between. The items are now being used at Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Logan and Gold Coast Hospitals.

The craft supplies have allowed us to increase the variety of craft activities we are able to offer the children.

Radio Lollipop would like to thank Eddie and Linda most sincerely for choosing us to donate their supplies, their generosity has made a significant impact on the lives of sick children in hospital now and into the future.

Check out the photo with Eddie and Linda and the boxed up craft supplies.

Racq careflight hovers into radio lollipop

Big supporters of Radio Lollipop, RACQ CareFlight dropped in and hovered around the studio and wards of Gold Coast Hospital, Southport bringing much joy to all the children, parents and staff.

RACQ CareFlight’s Deputy Chief Pilot Dave Bashir and Air Crewman Jamie Yeo, came to visit and play with the children, bringing laughter and fun to all. They joined in the fun with arts and crafts. Lost to the Queen of Jenga and got a thorough drilling on the radio by hand picked questions from the children.

We were lucky enough to have Destiny, a special visitor who volunteered to sing on the radio, blowing everyone away with her natural talent.

RACQ Careflight were extremely generous by giving us an abundance of teddy bears to give away to every child on the ward, brightening their day and putting smiles on little faces.

Thank you to Brooke, Dave and Jamie for making it a very special night, also many thanks to the volunteers, I know we all had a blast!

Radio Lollipop is honoured to have such a close association with RACQ CareFlight and look forward to more exciting happenings with them in the near future.
