Anyone for tennis?

The Funky Friday team at Brisbane’s Mater Children’s Hospital hosted a tennis night on 4 January to coincide with the summer season of tennis and the Brisbane International.

While the level of play displayed by Serena Williams and Andy Murray wasn’t on show, it was obvious there were some brilliant tennis players on the wards destined to improve their rankings. Playing with their own carefully crafted tennis racquets and specially developed Radio Lollipop tennis balls, the children hit lots of winning shots up and down the hospital courts….oops hospital beds. Winning smiles were all the more obvious as the children sported their special tennis gear compliments of the Brisbane Open and sponsor Suncorp. James, Matteo, Dino and Luca all enjoyed their games while Emily kept everyone in suspense as she hid behind her tennis racquet mask. The Funky Friday team enjoyed the night so much they all posed for courtside photos.

A very special thank you to Brisbane International and Suncorp for the tennis merchandise. It went down a real treat with the kids!

Give A Gift appeal for Southampton

VoiceFM’s Give A Gift appeal ran over Christmas and Radio Lollipop were one of four local charities to benefit from the initiative.

Fellow radio station, VoiceFM approached local business for donations specific to each chosen charity and for Radio Lollipop this meant much needed crafts and games for the patients of Southampton General Hospital.

Volunteers took to the Give a Gift` ceremony airwaves to raise awareness for the appeal.

Radio Lollipop Play Co-ordinator Christine Ojany attended the VoiceFM Give a Gift presentation to collect the donations.

Thank you to VoiceFM for choosing Radio Lollipop as one of your nominated charities.

Gig brings cheer to poorly youngsters

Hampshire band Brother Goose performed a Christmas gig with a difference – in hospital – when the four Southampton lads gave up their time to support the city’s Radio Lollipop station.

As well as being interviewed in the charity’s studio, the band performed a 30-minute acoustic set for youngsters on the children’s wards.

The gig included the band’s own material and covers, culminating in a Christmas singalong for the patients and their families.

Brother Goose formed at the start of 2012 and describe their sound as new but with the influences of established indie bands including Vampire Weekend and local group Delays.
