Carol’s Run for Radio Lollipop Edinburgh

Carol Grant is taking part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon to raise money for Radio Lollipop Edinburgh.

Carol popped into the studio at the hospital to talk about her planned run and she took part in a girls vs boys competition.  She said:

“I decided this year to run a half marathon and thought I would raise money for a
very worthwhile charity at the same time, Radio Lollipop”

The Edinburgh Marathon Festival takes place on 25th and 26th May and Carol will be taking part in the half marathon on Sunday 26th May.

Everyone at Radio Lollipop Edinburgh wishes Carol lots of luck and is very grateful for her support!

Red Rocket Three rock out with the Super Saturday Team

Red Rocket Three were our super duper special guests when the rocked out with the children and families at the Mater Children’s Hospital in early May 2013.

Super Saturday volunteers Branco and Cam helped transmit the magic of their live concert in the playroom to the children’s beds through the radio! And then the members of the group headed out to the wards to meet the children in person and perform live on the wards!

The super group left us with their album of classic hits so that the children can hear their music when we broadcast live on the radio six nights a week. It was an incredible experience for the families and the volunteers to have Red Rocket Three join us at the Mater Children’s Hospital and we hope they will come to visit us again soon!

Family Fun Day was a real Fund Raiser

The Raytheon Brisbane Social Club donated $1000 to Radio Lollipop at their Family Fun Day on Sunday 5 May 2013.  The Raytheon Brisbane Social Club held a Family Fun Day at Riverside Rocks Park at 17 Miles Rocks. Included in the day was a giant jumping castle, face painting, organised games and a sausage sizzle.  The Jumping castle was a great hit with the kids with the odd adult seen entering on the premise of retrieving one of their own.  Face painting was provided by Ashleigh & the Pop Princess from the Manic Monday team, raising $200 on the day. The Social Club has adopted Radio Lollipop as it chosen charity this year and were able to donate $1000 which will be used to fund some exciting new activities and supplies for our Mater playroom.

Funky Friday believe they can fly

It was a busy night for our Radio Lollipop volunteers on the Funky Friday team with lots of children in need of cheering up, and they were thankful for their friends at the Royal Australian Air Force who paid us a visit to help cheer up the children in hospital.

The children made rocket ships and our resident pilots talked to the children about what its really like flying up high in the sky. The children kept us busy all night in the studio by requesting songs and asking lots of tricky questions to our RAAF friend Sam who revealed his love for children’s music and dedicated a Peter Coombe song called ‘Toffee Apple’ for all the children listening on the radio!

It was a memorable night for so many children and our Radio Lollipop volunteers.

Thank you to our RAAF friends. You made brought so much joy to the Mater Hospital at Radio Lollipop. We hope you will fly in again soon!!
