Workshop teaches circus skills to the Lolli-Vollies

On Monday 10th June, Bristol Radio Lollipop volunteers ran away with the circus for the evening to learn a variety of performance skills.

The workshop was hosted by Tuesday night volunteers Kia Brown and Lauren Rowe who taught fellow lolli-vollies how to spin plates, balance feathers and juggle scarves as part of an action packed two hour training session.

Designed to share the expertise learnt from the Radio Lollipop Conference in March, the circus workshop was offered to all Bristol Lollipop volunteers as an opportunity to learn new skills, socialise and have some fun.

The new performance tricks learnt on the day will be used to entertain the children in the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children as well as at future Lollipop events in the local area.

Speaking of her experience on the day, Monday night volunteer Emma Worley said: “The circus skills session was really enjoyable, interesting and fun. I am relatively new to Radio Lollipop so it was good to meet new people as well as learning a few new skills along the way! I hope to put my new circus skills to good use next year by teaching some children and giving them an enjoyable time.”

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk visits Radio Lollipop Mater Children’s Hospital

The Lord Mayor of Brisbane Graham Quirk and Lady Mayoress Mrs Quirk made a special visit to Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital recently to experience first hand the wonderful work of our Radio Lollipop Volunteers.

The theme for the Radio Lollipop Super Saturday Show was ‘Bugs’ and the Radio Lollipop studio and playroom was buzzing with volunteers and children making fabulous butterfly’s and crazy caterpillars.

15 year old Rheece was co-hosting the show with Radio Lollipop Volunteer Razzle Dazzle who interviewed the Lord Mayor asking all the very tricky questions. We found out the Lord Mayor is a bit of an ice cream fan and his favourite is honeycomb, we also found out that during the week he met Ricky Martin and Queensland’s own Luke Kennedy from The Voice.

The Lord Mayor also spent time making caterpillars with 5 year old Aaligah in the playroom.

Check out the photo of Rheece and Aaligah with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress and the Super Saturday Team.

Bunnings continues to support Radio Lollipop Gold Coast

The five local Bunnings Hardware Stores have been wonderful supporters of Radio Lollipop Gold Coast over many years.

This year we recommenced the very popular Bunnings Children’s Craft Nights, where Radio Lollipop Gold Coast welcomed Alan and Annette to the Radio Lollipop studio and playroom, from the Nerang and Oxenford Bunnings stores.

Along with their wooden pencil boxes and colourful foam shapes, Alan and Annette brought with them a buzzing energy which could only be matched by the enthusiasm of the children.

Bunnings revisited the Radio Lollipop Gold Coast studio and playroom in May with wonderful Mother’s day crafts – decorated, multi-paged cards and beaded necklaces were surely a surprise to all Mum’s that weekend.

Our Radio Lollipop guests provided many laughs and fun to the hospital studio and playroom, and always got creative themselves, making their own crafts while assisting the children eagerly involved in the process.

With this year’s first sausage sizzle upcoming later in June, the Gold Coast team at Radio Lollipop have never been more excited and thankful to have the support of all the Bunnings stores on the Gold Coast.

2-year-old Finn Robinson is concentrating hard at the task at hand with Gold Coast Radio Lollipop Volunteer, Jaime Siu.

RUN-raising for Radio Lollipop Edinburgh

Fantastic fundraiser Carol Grant, completed the half marathon recently for Radio Lollipop Edinburgh and raised £812.50!

She completed the run in 2hrs 10 mins 42 secs (to be exact!)

When asked did you enjoy the event Carol said:

“Yes, it was a great route although Musselburgh seemed to go on for miles and miles!  Seeing Graham and the kids, Sophie & Kian, as I approached the finishing line was the highlight for me.  It was great weather… although going along Portobello the sun was almost too hot! Unheard off!”

Everyone at Radio Lollipop wishes to thank Carol for her support!
