Radio Lollipop Golf Day – Friday 11th December 2020

Radio Lollipop Golf Day – Friday, 11th December 2020

We need to acknowledge the importance of friendship, to take opportunities to celebrate that friendship and acknowledge how lucky we are to still be able to swing a club with friends.

If you agree with the above philosophy, join me and others at this year’s ‘Celebration of Friendship’ event to be held on Friday, 11th December 2020 at the Palm Meadows Golf Course at Carrara and staying overnight next door at the Mercure Gold Coast Resort on the Gold Coast.

Sponsorship packages are available providing the opportunity to promote your company to this prestigious group.

Join Ossie Moore, twice Queensland PGA Champion and Ian Healy, Australian former International cricketer as we look forward to a great day and night of camaraderie and be entertained during dinner by Ossie and Ian as Mark Braybrook from SEN Radio chats with these Queensland icons!

Enjoy the fellowship while along the way, you will be supporting a volunteer charity that provides care, comfort, play and entertainment for children in hospital.

Burleigh Bears Ladies Luncheon for Gold Coast kids

Gold Coast Radio Lollipop has recently been supported by a local rugby league football club, Burleigh Bears, through a fabulous ladies luncheon filled with raffles, live auction and even a hypnotist.

The level of support in the day was positively overwhelming as the guests outbid each other. Radio Lollipop received a grand total of $5,531 from the generosity of the local community.

Junior members of the club were actively involved by selling raffle tickets for loads of prizes, hand-delivering the prizes to the lucky winners. The auction was a special one, catered specifically for the luncheon’s beneficiaries Radio Lollipop, and Sassy Survivors, a young women’s breast cancer support group. Burleigh Bears players auctioned off three pink coloured football jerseys, to be worn at the charity football game on the following weekend by the junior players. Three hand-decorated bras were also auctioned off – one special bra was decorated in a way which represented the children at Gold Coast University Hospital.

Shane St James the hypnotist created lots of buzz and laughter, as members of the audience volunteered to fall under his spell. The brave members performed silly antics, dance moves and adopted strange personas to deliver a wildly entertaining show.

To close off the day, guests were encouraged to battle it out with a sing-and-dance off; the loudest, most boisterous tables each took home a bottle of champagne per person. Needless to say, a huge dance-party ensued as guests hopped up on tabletops, dancing and singing at the top of their lungs. It’s no surprise that there were quite a few winners!

The Gold Coast team extends their deepest thanks to Damian, Nicky, Jodie, and Burleigh Bears Rugby League Football Club for allowing Radio Lollipop to be involved in such a wonderful event!

The Gold Coast’s big 10th birthday bash!

Hip Hip Hooray! Radio Lollipop Gold Coast celebrated their 10th birthday with a bang, spreading the cheer with week-long festivities that had the pediatric nurses dressing up in costumes to match the daily themes. While the actual date of their anniversary was 28 July, Special Guest Coordinator Lauren Proctor organised special events for each Lollipop shift in the week.

On Monday, the Radio Lollipop saw the return of Gold Coast singer/performer Jacob Lee, who dazzled kids with favourite tunes.

The Terrific Tuesday team welcomed Party Palz, who arrived in a gigantic Minion costume to the kids’ delight.

The expert ghost-catching Ghostbuster (Ben Andrews aka. ECT02) joined the Wacky Wednesday crew to give even the shyest child the power to run those monsters out of town.

On Thursday, the Gold Coast’s official birthday, Radio Lollipop was taken over by local radio station Hot Tomato, with breakfast hosts Flan, Emily Jade and Christo.

And finally the Super Saturday team, patiently waiting their turn, closed out the birthday celebrations with party bags and Radio Lollipop temporary tattoos.

It was a week of birthday celebrations unparalleled by any other. Even the nursing staff got involved, joining our volunteers in matching costumes all week. All children who stayed in hospital this week definitely received a slice of our celebrations.

A very special thank you goes to the hospital executives and nursing staff for their amazing support for our Gold Coast volunteers – without their commitment to Radio Lollipop’s cause, our birthday week could not have been as big as it was!

Gold Coast support from Broadwater Rotary Club

BYSK Liz + ChairRadio Lollipop Gold Coast has been supported by Broadwater Rotary Club in a huge way this year. The club organised a lawn bowls day called Bare Your Soul For Kids day, which is a lawn bowls day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children.
Combining entry fees, raffle tickets and auction items, the club raised a total of $4000 for Radio Lollipop at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Southport Special School.

Gold Coast chairperson Elizabeth met with the club and was presented with the cheque. As the team expands their services to the children’s emergency department and intensive care unit in the hospital, funds like this are crucial for the volunteers to maintain their outstanding service – it means more bubbles, stickers, crafts and ultimately smiles and laughter for sick children.

Dennis O’Brien, the president of Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport, is extremely proud of the event.

“Bare Your Soles For Kids has become another wonderful annual Gold Coast community event and has established a fine tradition of raising funds for programs that benefit our youth,” said O’Brien.

Over its 12 year history, the Bare Your Soles For Kids has raised more than $300,000 for local communities and supported over 100 individuals in need on the Gold Coast.

Radio Lollipop would like to express their deep thanks to Dennis O’Brien and the group at Broad water Rotary for their support since the beginning of Radio Lollipop on the Gold Coast.
