Data#3 Donates $17,500 to Radio Lollipop

Data#3 Limited, one of Australia’s leading business technology solutions companies raised $17,500 for Radio Lollipop at its recent Queensland Charity Golf Day.

The official cheque was presented to Radio Lollipop at the Mater Hospital in South Brisbane on Wednesday evening and included a tour of the Radio Lollipop studio and their play program in action.

More than 100 customers, vendor partners and staff enjoyed a round of golf at Brisbane’s Indooroopilly Golf Course on September 20, 2013 and the day was hosted by Pat Welsh (Seven News). With the generous help of sponsors, on-course donations and a post-event auction, Data#3 was successful in raising an incredible $17,500 to donate to Radio Lollipop.

Data#3 Group General Manager, Laurence Baynham said that the company has a long history of engaging with and supporting charitable organisations within the Australian community.

“Over a 10 year period, our Charity Golf Day has raised significant funds which have been donated to organisations across the country. The success of our yearly charity event is evident in the commitment and support from the Data#3 team and our vendor partners in consistently achieving our fundraising goals year on year.

“The team is excited to be supporting Radio Lollipop and are thrilled with the fundraising result! This year’s event is a great day out for all involved and our ability to raise $17,500 will help continue to enable the fantastic work Radio Lollipop do within the community.”

Sandra Ursino, Director, Radio Lollipop Australia said that Radio Lollipop was overwhelmed by the generosity and support from Data#3 and their sponsors. This donation will go towards the purchase of new digital radio equipment in the set-up of the new Radio Lollipop studio in the Queensland Children’s Hospital due to open in 2014.

Radio Lollipop re-opens are the new Gold Coast University Hospital with CareFlight Bears for everyone

Radio Lollipop volunteers have returned to the children’s ward at the Gold Coast University Hospital. The team were given a break while hospital staff adjusted to the much larger Parkwood premises. It was time to return when children started to bug the nurses about bringing Radio Lollipop back! To celebrate their first night at the new hospital Radio Lollipop volunteers came “bearing” gifts – pilot teddies donated by Careflight.

Lucy, 11, was thrilled to see the happy faces of volunteers on Wednesday night. “I like Radio Lollipop because it takes you away from all the hospital stuff, and my favourite thing is that it puts a smile on all the kids faces,” she said.

Ruby, 7, loved having her face painted like a tiger and baby Charlie gave his teddy lots of cuddles.

The state-of-the-art hospital presents new challenges for volunteers as the children’s ward features mostly single rooms.

But thanks to donations from the generous community and relentless fundraising the Gold Coast team is equipped with lots of new art supplies, games and books to keep the sick kids smiling.

Officeworks make a Beary Special Visit to Radio Lollipop Brisbane

Radio Lollipop Brisbane had a beary special visit from Ollie the Officework’s Bear along with his friends Batman, Poison Ivy and Smurfette when they visited The Super Saturday Team on Lollipop Day. The Radio Lollipop Studio was alive with activity as the children began the great crafts Officeworks and our Radio Lollipop Super Saturday Team had organised.

Ollie the Officework’s Bear and Smurfette had a turn up on the wards with Ollie giving hi-5s and big bear hugs to many little people. An 8 year old boy on the wards enjoyed a big bear hug from Ollie but once he heard his favourite superhero, Batman, was down in the Radio Lollipop Studio, he couldn’t get down there fast enough and had eyes full of excitement.

Later in the Radio Lollipop Studio, there were superhero quizzes on the radio and a smurf colouring competition with the winners receiving smurf merchandise supplied by our friends at Officeworks. The overall winner, a young girl, received a big blue Smurfette toy which she loved saying she would, ‘cuddle it every day of her life!’

Every fortnight Officework’s staff volunteer their time to visit the Super Saturday Team to provide craft activities and resources to support Radio Lollipop Volunteers at The Mater Hospital.  It all began with an Officeworks manager, who had been in hospital a lot as a child, wanting to give something back and he encouraged his employees to do the same.

Thank you to all of our special guests from the Officeworks Adelaide Street and Underwood Stores. We would like to thank you for the great craft supplies and thank you especially for giving up your time to volunteer with us at Radio Lollipop. Special thanks go to Britta, Mikalya, Seane, Jared, Rod, Kelli, Jack, Hannah and especially Ollie the Officework’s Bear, Batman, Poison Ivy and Smurfette.  We hope you’ll visit Radio Lollipop again soon.
