Mckenzie comer and cody simpson perform at radio lollipop gold coast

Radio Lollipop was pleased to host the concert of young singers McKenzie Comer and Cody Simpson at Radio Lollipop on the Gold Coast Hospital.

McKenzie is a regular special guest visitor to Radio Lollipop and this week Cody joined her. McKenzie and Cody both have the same singing coach Venetta Fields, who no doubt is one of the best singing coach on the Gold Coast, if not the world.

We have been so privileged to be afforded a special treat with both singing stars coming in to put on a special concert for the children in the Radio Lollipop studio.

McKenzie sang three of our favourite songs followed by Cody, who also sang three songs, one an original composition and also his current song “ONE” tipped to be a big hit when he travels to the United States of America at the end of December. McKenzie and Cody ended the show with a Duet to rapturous applause.

All the children queued up for autograph signings and photos before McKenzie and Cody were interviewed on the radio with some tricky questions. Cody joined McKenzie in getting their hands painted for our hand wall of fame and the children enjoyed getting them both messy.

We wish both McKenzie and Cody all the best for the future and look forward to following both their careers with keen interest and our support. Come back soon guys .

The balloon kings come to radio lollipop town again.

Once again on the 5th December, the unbelievably, multi talented Kano, from the Balloon Kings, rocks up to Radio Lollipop at the Gold Coast Hospital.

Kano is sooooooo good and a fantastic regular special guest. After going round the wards to see the children that were bed bound, Kano came back to the studio to hang out with the children there too.

Requests from the boys to make guns out of balloons made Kano devise a proto-type Submachine gun, he threw in a few swords and a T Rex for good measure. The girls where quite content with beautiful dragonflies, flowers and poodles. Aliens where on the cards too and if that wasn’t enough, Kano performed some magic tricks as well, that enthralled everyone.

The Balloon Kings have been a major supporter of Radio Lollipop here on the Gold Coast Hospital with countless visits and offers of help for our special events. They have dressed our studio on special occasions and we really appreciate all their enthusiastic and generous help. We hope to see Kano and the team again soon, especially in the New Year for our 2010 Special Guest Program.

Mckenzie sings up an emotional evening.

Once again our very own McKenzie sang to the children in the Radio Lollipop studio at the Gold Coast Hospital on Thursday 3rd December and filled our hearts with joy.

Our now honoured guest McKenzie is a regular guest at Radio Lollipop both on the Gold Coast and at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. McKenzie has moved us all by the time and effort she gives by coming in for the children and her beautiful voice makes everyone smile.

McKenzie sang 8 songs, with a break in the middle to let one of the patients sing, before ending with “I still call Australia home” to rapturous applause.

As with tradition, after getting her hands painted for our book of fame, she made good use of the paint on our volunteers.

The children always love McKenzie’s visits, as well as all the volunteers and hospital staff who queue outside the studio to listen. Watch this space, as rumour has it that McKenzie will return very soon to Radio Lollipop Gold Coast with some friends.

Crazy golf time in southampton

Radio Lollipop in Southampton was involved in a charity fundraiser with a difference. John Goss, a Radio Lollipop volunteer from Bristol, decided as part of Lollipop’s 30th anniversary to travel the entire length of the United Kingdom, from Lands End to John O’Groats. This, a feat in itself, was not enough for John who made sure he completed at least thirty rounds of Crazy Golf in various locations in the UK, one for each year of Radio Lollipop.

On 3rd August he arrived at his fourth golf course of the day, this time in sunny Southampton ready to exhibit his crazy golf skills! Unfortunately for John though, Southampton Lollipop volunteer Michael Cassidy prevailed, with the help of a good dose of luck. After the enthralling game, it was off to the general hospital, as John joined our play session at the studio for the night. It was fun evening had by all, as John (aka DJ Stom) and DJ Magic Mike hosted an impromptu radio show, with special guest Joshua who is now considering a career as a Radio DJ! John left the following morning, charged up for another 6 courses in a day. He finished his tiring, yet enjoyable journey just ten days later.
